Great coat

I’m not an outdoorsman, I bought this as I wanted a lightweight coat that nobody else would have for everyday use and one that wouldn’t be too bulky to drive in.
I got the XL, it’s not snug but not as bulky as everyone appears to think
The quality is excellent (looks unissued to me) and after a week I’ve had several people asking where they can find one.
It’s a great stone colour (think 1960’s raincoat) and after replacing the nylon cords with linen (hood) and elastic (waist) it looks great and even on the Mersey in October is surprisingly warm!
It took less than a week to arrive too.
I’m glad I bought this.

Excellent bit of kit!

These really are great. In the past I used another version of this smock, the over-the-head version, but these ones with the button closure are, I think, a bit more versatile, and certainly easier to get on in a howling gale.

First off, since they’re designed to be worn over a uniform/parka/helmet/pack sort of arrangement, be aware these tend to be sized BIG. Made of a good quality, fine-weave cotton, whilst it’s not waterproof, it is pretty much windproof. Use of a proprietary fabric waterproofing product will no doubt increase its ability to resist the elements.

I like these so much I bought two, one will remain as is in Swedish off-white (it’s an odd shade to try and describe but the product photo captures it spot on), whilst the other one is destined to be dyed olive drab for general bushcraft/wild camping use.

Well worth giving one of these a try.

Is this waterproof ? Thanks

The Swedish M62 Snow Parka is not waterproof, it is made from cotton and some people dye and wax these jackets and they really do look good.

I have one of these parkas and while it is very windproof, as it is made of cotton, it is not waterproof.

However, if you use it as a shell as intended, over another coat, it does resist light to medium rain, enough to keep the under coat dry... unless the rain turns to mizzle, then you can expect no more than 10 minutes before you a saturated right through.

Hope this helps.

No, but could use fabsil to make it more water repellent.
