This reproduction is a faithful replica of the "Protect and Survive" leaflet, the chilling public information guide prepared by the British government during the height of the Cold War. While famously associated with the late 1970s and early 80s, these protocols were the culmination of decades of civil defence planning. This document provides a factual, stark look at the official advice given to the British public on how to prepare for and survive a nuclear exchange.

Product Specifications & Features

  • Authentic Civil Defence Content: Contains the original, no-nonsense instructions on identifying warning sounds, constructing a "fall-out room," and managing limited water supplies.

  • Period-Correct Format: A staple-bound or fold-out leaflet that replicates the layout, typeface, and iconic illustrations of the original Home Office publications.

  • Service-Issue Quality: Printed on durable paper stock that mimics the feel of late-20th-century government stationery while ensuring longevity for study and display.

  • Tactile History: Offers a direct, unsettling insight into the administrative reality of a nation bracing for "The Ultimate Emergency."

Key Historical Sections

This leaflet serves as a primary-source archive of Cold War survival doctrine:

  • The Warning System: Details the "Four Minute Warning" and the specific siren sounds (Rising and Falling vs. Steady Note) that would precede a strike.

  • Fall-out Room Construction: Practical, if controversial, diagrams showing how to use doors, furniture, and bags of earth to create a radiation shield.

  • The "Life-Sustaining" Kit: Official lists of essential items, including tinned food, portable radios, and heavy-duty polythene bags for waste disposal.

  • The Stay-at-Home Policy: Reflects the government's firm instruction for civilians to remain in their homes rather than attempt to flee urban centres.

Realistic Use Cases

In keeping with our army surplus UK standards for functional historical resources, this leaflet is intended for:

  • Educational Instruction: A powerful tool for schools and universities to teach the history of the Cold War and the concept of "Mutual Assured Destruction."

  • Historical Reenactment: An essential accessory for those portraying ROC (Royal Observer Corps) personnel, civil defence wardens, or "Prepper" impressions from the 1970s/80s.

  • Museum Exhibits: A cost-effective way to display high-detail Cold War ephemera without risking the deterioration of original paper archives.

  • Media & Film Props: Period-correct documentation for set dressing in productions set during the Cold War era.

Condition Note: This is a high-quality modern reproduction. It is designed for active study and display, offering a realistic look and feel where an original vintage document would be increasingly rare and fragile.
