This reproduction is a faithful replica of the identity card issued to Royal Air Force personnel during the Second World War. As a vital piece of service-issue equipment, this card was the primary means of identification for airmen and officers, granting access to airbases, mess halls, and restricted military installations. This reproduction provides a practical, factual look at the administrative requirements of the RAF during the 1940s.

Product Specifications & Features

  • Authentic Service Design: High-quality reproduction featuring the correct Air Ministry layout, typography, and official RAF branding of the period.

  • Service-Issue Quality: Printed on durable card stock that replicates the texture and weight of original wartime identification papers.

  • Administrative Accuracy: Includes the standard fields for Name, Rank, Service Number, and Station, allowing for a realistic insight into military record-keeping.

  • Tactile History: An essential resource for those requiring a hands-on connection to the life and bureaucracy of the wartime RAF.

Historical Context

This document serves as a primary-source record of the Royal Air Force's security protocols:

  • Personnel Security: Reflects the strict measures taken by the Air Ministry to ensure only authorised personnel had access to sensitive aircraft and intelligence.

  • Daily Service Life: The ID card was a constant companion for RAF members, required for everything from collecting pay to passing through the main gate of a Bomber or Fighter Command station.

  • Official Documentation: Illustrates the standardisation of military ID during the shift to global conflict, where verifying identity was critical to preventing espionage.

Realistic Use Cases

In line with our army surplus UK standards for functional historical resources, this RAF ID card is intended for:

  • Historical Reenactment: An essential "pocket filler" for those portraying RAF pilots, ground crew, or WAAF personnel in 1940s living history displays.

  • Educational Instruction: A practical tool for museums and schools to demonstrate the logistical side of the air war and the life of service members.

  • Museum Exhibits: A cost-effective way to display high-detail service documentation without risking the deterioration of fragile original artefacts.

  • Theatrical & Film Props: Accurate, period-correct documentation for stage, film, or television productions set on a WWII airbase.

Condition Note: This is a high-quality modern reproduction. It is designed for active use and study, offering a realistic look and feel where an original 85-year-old service document would be far too fragile for regular handling.
