British Army 58 Pattern Poncho Roll – Grade A

Classic Heavyweight Canvas | Belt-Mounted Utility | Authentic Cold War Kit

The Original Heavy-Duty Carry Solution

The 58 Pattern Poncho Roll is a staple of British military history. Designed to sit at the rear of the 58 Pattern webbing system, this roll was engineered to carry the standard-issue rubberized poncho or the "Basha" shelter. Made from heavyweight, rot-resistant cotton canvas, this is a piece of kit from an era where equipment was built to last a lifetime, not just a season.

Whether you are a collector completing an authentic Cold War webbing set or a bushcrafter looking for a rugged, canvas tail-pack for your belt, the 58 Pattern Poncho Roll offers timeless utility and "over-engineered" durability.

Key Features & Technical Specs

  • Heavy-Duty Canvas Construction: Built from thick, tightly woven olive drab canvas that provides excellent abrasion resistance and natural water repellency.

  • Integrated Belt Attachments: Features the standard 58 Pattern double-hook system (C-hooks) and steadying straps, allowing it to be mounted securely to a 58 Pattern belt or any heavy-duty tactical belt.

  • Expandable Storage: While designed for a poncho, the flap and strap system allows it to carry blankets, lightweight sleeping bags, or waterproof layers.

  • Authentic Hardware: Equipped with the original metal buckles and reinforced stitching points typical of British 50s/60s era manufacturing.

  • Low-Profile Design: Sits comfortably on the small of the back (butt-pack style), keeping your gear accessible without hindering movement.

Condition Note: Grade A (Excellent Surplus)

Our Grade A 58 Pattern rolls are selected for their serviceability:

  • Integrity: Canvas is strong and supple with no holes, rot, or major fraying.

  • Hardware: Metal C-hooks and buckles are present and fully functional.

  • Character: May feature original soldier’s names or service numbers penned on the canvas, adding to the unique historical provenance of the piece.

Ideal For:

  • 58 Pattern Webbing Sets: The essential rear component for anyone building a complete "Falklands era" or Cold War-style loadout.

  • Traditional Bushcraft: A perfect "butt-pack" for those who prefer natural canvas kit over modern plastic/nylon.

  • Vintage Restorations: Ideal for kitting out the interior stowage of a vintage Land Rover or military vehicle.

  • Motorcyclists: Makes a rugged, vintage-style tool roll or small tail-pack for classic bikes.
