Army Surplus UK: Your Questions Answered
Military Mart has traded since 1999. We sell genuine ex-military kit alongside clearly described new branded and military-pattern stock, online and from Burscough, near Ormskirk, and Llangollen. Here are straightforward answers to the questions we hear about buying surplus, checking condition and visiting a shop.
Where can I buy Army surplus online in the UK?
You can buy army surplus online in the UK from Military Mart at militarymart.co.uk. We have traded since 1999 and sell ex-military clothing, footwear and camping kit alongside new branded products. Check each listing for its origin, condition grade, size and availability rather than assuming everything is issued surplus.
Start with British surplus, boots or clothing, depending on the kit you need. Our grading system explains what used condition means before you order.
If you need help with a listing, contact our mail order team. Give us the product name and the size or quantity you are looking for.
What happened to Army Surplus stores?
Army surplus stores have not disappeared. Military Mart still sells online and has physical shops in Burscough, near Ormskirk, and Llangollen. If a particular local shop has closed, that does not mean military surplus is no longer available; check the retailer’s current address and opening hours before travelling.
We cannot give one explanation for every shop closure. A specific business’s own closure notice is a firmer source than assuming the whole trade has stopped. Our Ormskirk store and Llangollen store pages show where to find us.
For background on our own stock, read The Source: Why We Buy from the Government. It explains the sorting work behind surplus retail, rather than making claims about other shops.
Can anyone shop at an Army Surplus store?
Yes. You do not need to be serving in the armed forces to buy ordinary clothing, boots or camping equipment from Military Mart. We supply the public, including outdoor enthusiasts, cadets and collectors. Product-specific conditions still apply, and the description should explain what you are buying and its condition.
You can shop online or visit either store. Check our Ormskirk and Llangollen opening hours, and ask about a particular size before making a journey.
For cadets, start with the cadet kit range and check your unit’s requirements. A commercial military-pattern item is not automatically government-issue kit.
Can you still buy military surplus?
Yes. Military Mart continues to sell genuine ex-military surplus in the UK, online and in two physical shops. Available kit includes clothing, footwear and camping equipment, with condition described on individual listings. Stock varies by item and size, so an old listing does not guarantee that a particular version remains available.
Surplus can be used or unused; the listing is what tells you which. New branded outdoor kit may sit alongside it, so read the product description rather than treating every item in a surplus shop as ex-issue.
Browse British surplus and use the grading system to compare condition. For a specific enquiry, speak to the mail order team.
What is the best military surplus website?
There is no single military surplus website that suits every buyer. Compare the actual kit, available sizes, condition descriptions and contact details. Military Mart is an option for UK buyers looking for ex-military clothing, boots and camping equipment, with a published grading system and two physical shops you can visit.
A collector may care about origin and markings; someone buying work clothing may care more about fit and wear. Compare like-for-like items instead of deciding from a retailer’s name or a broad claim about its range.
Read about Military Mart, check the grading system, and contact our mail order team if the listing leaves a practical question unanswered.
Where can I find Army surplus boots in the UK?
You can find army surplus boots in Military Mart’s online boots collection and ask about stock at our Burscough and Llangollen shops. The range includes ex-issue footwear alongside new branded or military-pattern boots. Check each pair’s description, condition and listed size; a brand name alone does not establish military provenance.
Use the boots collection and military boot size guide together. Follow the size and fitting shown for the specific pair, not a blanket assumption that every military boot uses the same system.
Used boots need a condition check as well as a fit check. Read our grading system, and contact the mail order team before travelling for a particular size.
Are Army Surplus stores legit?
An army surplus shop can be a legitimate retailer, but the name alone is not proof. Look for clear contact details, an identifiable business, honest condition descriptions and a distinction between issue kit and reproductions. Military Mart has traded since 1999, publishes its grading system and operates two physical shops.
A condition grade describes wear; it does not authenticate an item by itself. Look at the stated origin and product details too. If a label or a description is unclear, ask the seller rather than guessing from camouflage or a maker’s name.
Our grading system explains condition. Our About page, Ormskirk store and Llangollen store give business and location details you can check.
Where is the largest army surplus store?
We cannot reliably name the largest army surplus store without a current comparison using a stated measure, such as floor area or stock held. Military Mart has two UK shops: its main store and warehouse in Burscough, near Ormskirk, Lancashire, and a second store in Llangollen, North Wales.
For a visit to our Lancashire warehouse and showroom, use the Ormskirk store page. The address is Unit 5, Ringtail Road, Burscough, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L40 8JY.
Our Llangollen shop is at 10 Berwyn Street, LL20 8ND. Contact the mail order team about the kit you want before travelling; a size claim is less useful than knowing whether the right item is available.
Is army surplus cheap?
Army surplus can offer good value, but it is not automatically the cheapest option. Compare the item’s condition, fit, contents and total cost with a suitable alternative. At Military Mart, used kit is graded so you can judge the trade-off between price and wear before deciding what suits your budget.
Our grading system separates like-new A+ items from used A, more worn B and potentially damaged C items. A lower price is not a saving if the kit needs work you cannot do or does not fit.
Compare current listings in clothing, boots or bulk deals. We do not promise a fixed saving across the range.
Where can I buy bulk military surplus?
You can browse Military Mart’s Bulk Deals collection for listed quantities and contact our mail order team about larger requirements. Check the contents, condition and sizes of each lot before buying. Availability and any quotation depend on the stock involved; we do not promise a standard trade discount or minimum order.
Start with Bulk Deals. A mixed lot and a set quantity of one item are different purchases, so check exactly what is included rather than assuming you can choose every size or colour.
For an enquiry, call 01695 228 323, option 3, or email sales@militarymart.co.uk through our mail order page. Tell us the item, quantity, required sizes and delivery postcode.
Why is military surplus so expensive?
Military surplus prices need to be judged against the particular item, not the word surplus. Condition, available sizes, completeness and the work needed to sort a lot can affect what you pay. Military Mart grades used stock and describes individual listings so you can compare the actual kit rather than its label.
Our sourcing article describes buying lots and sorting their contents. A used item, an unused item and a damaged example are not the same offer, even if their names look similar.
Check the grading system and ask our mail order team about anything unclear. Neither a high price nor a low price, on its own, proves authenticity or value.
