Swiss Army Surplus 3-Piece Hand Pump Sprayer (Stirrup Pump)
Unlock Professional-Grade Utility with Genuine Swiss Military Engineering
Discover the rugged durability and timeless design of the Swiss Army Surplus 3-Piece Hand Pump Sprayer. Originally issued for decontamination and emergency fire suppression, this "bucket sprayer" (or stirrup pump) is a masterclass in Swiss engineering. Built from solid brass and high-quality components, it converts any water source—like a bucket or jerry can—into a high-pressure spraying system.
Whether you are a vintage tool collector, a gardening enthusiast, or looking for a reliable off-grid cleaning solution, this versatile pump delivers performance that cheap modern plastics can’t match.
The "3-Piece" Configuration
This set is famously known as a "3-piece" unit, designed for rapid deployment and ease of use:1
-
The Pump (Cylinder): A double-action piston pump mechanism often encased in durable brass or steel. It builds pressure on both the up and down stroke for a continuous, powerful stream.
-
The Hose (Intake & Discharge): Typically features a long, high-quality rubber hose (approx. 5m) that allows you to move freely around your workspace while the intake stays submerged.
-
The Stand (Stirrup/Foot Base): A fold-out or fixed metal footplate that stabilizes the pump on the ground. You simply step on it to anchor the unit while pumping, allowing for comfortable, ergonomic operation.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Genuine Swiss Surplus: Authentic military issue (often dated mid-20th century), meaning it was built to last a lifetime.
-
Solid Construction: The core pump components and nozzles are machined , resisting corrosion and ensuring smooth mechanical action.
-
High-Pressure Output: Capable of generating significant pressure, making it strong enough to jet-wash mud off boots or mist delicate plants depending on the nozzle setting.
-
Portability: Lightweight yet sturdy; it packs down easily for storage in a shed, truck, or emergency kit.
-
Self-Priming: The weighted intake filter (strainer) sinks to the bottom of any bucket, preventing clogging from debris and ensuring immediate water flow.
Versatile Applications
| Application | Description |
| Garden & Horticulture | Perfect for watering hanging baskets, spraying fertilizers, or treating fruit trees without needing a heavy backpack sprayer. |
| Cleaning & Washdown | Ideal for washing down muddy bikes, boots, 4x4 vehicles, or patio furniture where a hose pipe isn't accessible. |
| Fire Safety | Originally designed as a "stirrup pump" for extinguishing small fires; a great addition to a rural fire preparedness kit. |
| Restoration Projects | A beautiful piece for collectors of vintage tools, military gear, or brassware. Polishes up to a stunning shine. |
